Our Front Room aka The Playroom

Our school has changed so much over the past 24 years. It has grown from just the front room to a few other rooms in the house. It looks more like a school than a home that a family lives in. We have come to accept that fact and work hard to make sure that we have certain areas within our home to retreat to during closed hours.

For now, I would like to give you a "tour" of that front room that we do quite a bit in at the beginning and end of class. Our preschoolers do most of their work in there while the elementary students work in another room for less distractions.

This is the view you will see standing at the front door. That doorway goes right to our school library and our craft room and kitchen. Right by the doorway, you can see our "space library" reading nook. On the front side, we put our themed books for whatever we are learning about or for the holiday we are celebrating. That side faces our circle time area and puzzles.

Our home living area is right behind our puzzle shelf. We have so many different things for the children to do in this area. Their favorites are to turn it into a restaurant, a vets office or to play moms and dads with their own cell phones and baby dolls. The cell phones are either phones without a battery or a calculator that they use as one. Their imagination is amazing.

Right above our home living area is our artist wall. We added that in 2022 and the kids LOVE it! We fill the hooks with their art work and send it home weekly, most of the time.

When standing in the home living area this is part of the view. In these baskets and containers are so many different resources for learning that I couldn't possibly name them all. Building toys, math manipulatives, geo boards, cars, Legos, etc...

Our basic supplies like markers, colored pencils, glue, scissors, etc., are on the top of the two large 9 cubbie shelves. Our preschool curriculum booklets, some learning DVD's, and some off the musical instruments for our music program are on the top of the other shelf. We have our drums, CD/radio and some CDs on the small shelf on the right. The "red" table can be used to do writing or puzzles or just any activity that someone wants to do alone.

Here is a side view of the little reading area and circle time rug. You can see our Secret Stories briefcase behind the chair. The large puzzle shelf is filled with puzzles. We've got puzzles for all ages and skill level.

And here is the final view, from the large doorway next to the library. Under the windows is a play yard area for our youngest friends. (We have grandchildren that are under 3 that are here on a regular basis). Next to the front door is a big comfy chair. I hope you have enjoyed a closer look at one of the rooms in our school. We hope to show you more soon!
